Athens Craft Beer Expo featuring Microbreweries & Premium Beers

“Zythognosia”, the only exhibition in Greece showcasing exclusively microbreweries and premium beers, is scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 17th and 18th October 2015 in downtown Athens.

The name “Zythognosia” is composed of two Greek words: “Zythos” meaning beer and “Gnosis” meaning knowledge; Zythognosia, therefore, reflects knowledge and appreciation of beer, a fitting name for this event whose goal is to attract people who want to educate themselves about beer.

Breweries and microbreweries from all over Greece as well as importers of premium quality beers will be exhibiting at Zythognosia this year. More than 100 different beers from about 40 breweries will be available for tasting at the exhibitors’ individual stands. Visitors are given a tasting glass at the entrance of the show and are free to wander from brewery to brewery tasting their beers and talking with their brewmasters. Entry to the exhibition costs 12€ and is valid for the two days. The venue is an old clothes factory in the Keramikos area of downtown Athens called «The Hub Events».

Zythognosia is a reflection of the Greek beer market which is changing rapidly as Greece catches up with the craft beer phenomenon. Already there are over 12 microbreweries in operation on Greek islands such as Corfu, Cephalonia, Evia, Crete, Tinos, Santorini and Hios. The total number of Greek microbreweries is estimated at about 25.

At the same time long-established breweries, with a rich history of operations in the Greek beer market, are creating new brands in the premium segment to satisfy an ever-growing demand by discerning drinkers for more unusual beers. 

This year Zythognosia is supported by a wide range of parallel events taking place throughout Athens during the week of October 12th to the 18th, all part of the “Athens Beer Week”, which culminates with Zythognosia. The complete program of events is listed on the “Zythognosia” website.

Zythognosia is also proud to welcome to this year’s event two of the world’s top beer journalists, John Holl, editor-in-chief of All About Beer (USA) and Luc de Raedemaeker, editor-in-chief of bière Grand Cru (Belgium). Both will be reporting for their magazines on the Greek craft beer movement.
